A Little Bit More About Hypnotherapy...

feather
Hypnotherapy can help you make permanent, positive changes...

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is form of deep focus.  It is a pleasant and natural state of mind.  Hypnosis is deeply relaxing and enhances a feeling of well-being, whilst putting you in charge of your own mind and positive outcomes.  Hypnosis occurs automatically, several times a day, often without us even realising.

Hypnosis for self-development works through the use of carefully worded suggestions prepared by your professional hypnotherapist based on information you have given them about the changes or improvement you wish to make in your life. You remain in control at all times and hear most, if not all of what is said to you. The common myth that people are unconscious or asleep during hypnosis is absolutely not true. Some people do go very deeply into hypnosis, but the subconscious mind hears everything that is said, and acts upon those positive suggestions.

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic work carried out whilst you are in the relaxed state of hypnosis.  As a professional hypnotherapist, I have mastered and perfected a range of techniques for helping you overcome issues which you feel are currently limiting your life in some way.

WHAT IS COGNITIVE HYPNOTHERAPY?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is the use of several different techniques, including NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Education and Coaching, along with Hypnotherapy to help you work you way through issues that you feel are limiting you and preventing you from achieving your full potential.

HOW DOES HYPNOSIS FEEL?

Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind, clients are often surprised when they hear every word. Unless one enters a deeper state, or at least a medium state, you may not “feel” any different than when you are relaxing in your favourite easy chair with a good book or some beautiful music. You may feel quite mellow, and may feel light (or weightless), or very heavy, as if sinking into the chair. The feeling may be euphoric for some who enter a very deep state, almost like being intoxicated without the side effects. In a light state of hypnosis, it is entirely possible for a client to believe that he or she was not hypnotised. Amazingly, however, many clients have successfully achieved their goals without ever going deeper than a light trance.

The basic requirements for hypnosis to occur are the desire to be hypnotised and the ability to follow simple instructions. During hypnosis, you maintain 100% conscious control. Your conscious mind will sensor every suggestion made during hypnosis, and will say “Yes, I’d like to become a non-smoker / reduce my weight / be more motivated” or whatever the suggestion may be, and when that choice is made, the suggestions will go straight through to the subconscious mind. If you hear a suggestion that doesn’t fit with your values, your conscious mind will simply reject it and it will not pass through to your subconscious mind.

CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTISED?

Yes. Anyone that wants to be hypnotised can be. We are often in hypnosis without even realising. Have you ever driven somewhere on automatic pilot, or been so engrossed in a book or television programme that you lose all track of what is going on around you? Then you have been in hypnosis. As you know, you are always in control in those situations, and can bring your attention back at any time you choose. It is a common myth that hypnosis is something that someone else “does to you.” Hypnosis is actually a state of focus and concentration that cannot be forced upon you, meaning that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

The power of our mind is incredibly strong, and no hypnotist in the world can hypnotise someone that doesn’t want to be hypnotised. Conversely, anyone who wants to be hypnotised can be. The hypnotist is simply guiding you through self-hypnosis, and when in hypnosis, using hypnotherapy to help you make the permanent positive changes to the areas of your life for which you are seeking assistance. We are all different, and consequently, respond differently to different stimuli. As a professional hypnotherapist, I have learned several different techniques during my training, and the client-centred approach means that I will use the technique that is best suited to the your needs, creating the best possible foundation for a permanent positive outcome.

CAN I GET 'STUCK' IN HYPNOSIS?

No you can’t. You will come out of hypnosis when instructed, just as you would come round from having a nice, lazy relax on the sofa. A competent hypnotherapist will bring you back into full conscious awareness feeling relaxed and refreshed. You will be offered some water and have a few moments of quiet to come back to full, conscious awareness before continuing about your day.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Everyone is different and the number of sessions you will require depends on the type of therapy you are seeking as well as your own levels of motivation.

HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION TAKE?

Your first session can take up to 90 minutes because I ask you lots of questions and we discuss your issue thoroughly in order to give you the best possible outcome for your needs. Subsequent sessions are bookable as 60 or 90 minute sessions, depending upon your needs. Smoking Cessation and Hypno-Gastric Band sessions take around two hours.

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE MYSELF FOR MY SESSION?

Come with an open mind and be prepared to go with the flow. Wear comfortable clothing in order that you can relax easily in a chair. Caffeine is a stimulant, so avoiding it in the few hours leading up to your session might be beneficial. Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs prior to your session.
